“But I Never Had an Injury.” Here’s Why We Hear That So Often

You’ve probably said it yourself. A knee starts aching for no reason. A shoulder gets tight and never fully loosens up. Then you get an MRI and hear a diagnosis that makes zero sense: a labral tear, a meniscus tear, arthritis, a disc herniation. And the first thing out of your mouth is, “But I never had an injury. How did this happen?”

Here’s the answer nobody gave you: it happened slowly, through your posture, years before you ever felt a thing.

How posture actually works

Posture isn’t about standing up straight for a photo. It’s about how weight and force move through your body. Every step you take, every rep you lift, every hour you spend hunched over a desk or a phone sends load through your joints. When your posture is off, that load doesn’t spread evenly. Some areas end up absorbing far more than they were built to handle.

Think about a car that’s out of alignment. The tires don’t wear down evenly. One edge takes a beating while the rest barely does its job. Keep driving on it and eventually you’re not just replacing tires, you’re dealing with suspension problems and a rougher ride overall. Your body works exactly the same way. Misalignment doesn’t distribute wear evenly, and something ends up taking damage it was never designed to take.

At first, your body tries to warn you. Pain. Stiffness. Tightness. Weakness. Those aren’t random annoyances. That’s your body waving a flag, telling you something is off.

If nothing changes, your body stops warning you and starts adapting instead. And that’s where the real damage begins. Joints break down faster than they should. Muscles and tendons take on stress they were never built for, which is where a lot of tendinitis comes from. Movement patterns shift too, and when one area gets overloaded, other areas quietly start picking up the slack. That’s usually how people end up hurt somewhere that seems completely unrelated to the actual problem, and it’s also why some people seem “injury prone,” ending up in pain after the exact same activities over and over.

Posture can even affect how your organs function. When your frame gets compressed or misaligned, your organs don’t have the space they need to work properly. That can show up as trouble breathing fully, acid reflux, digestive issues, even pelvic floor problems.

I learned this the hard way

When I was in chiropractic school, I developed hip pain that wouldn’t go away. I remember feeling like a hypocrite. Here I was, studying to help people move and feel better, and I couldn’t fix my own body. I did what most people do. I got adjusted. It helped for a day, maybe two, and then the pain came right back.

It wasn’t until I understood what was actually happening underneath the pain, the posture, the load distribution, the years of compensation, that anything changed for good. That experience is the entire reason Strong Performance Chiropractic exists. Chasing pain with quick fixes doesn’t work. Finding and correcting the root cause does.

The best part

Here’s the good news in all of this. When posture gets corrected, the body is given a real chance to repair itself. Tissue that’s been under stress from poor load distribution can heal once that load is corrected. The human body is remarkably resilient when you give it the right conditions to recover.

That’s the whole philosophy behind our three pillars. Posture Correction comes first because it’s the foundation. Movement Correction builds on top of it. Strength gets built on top of both. You can’t fix movement or build real strength on a foundation that’s still shifting underneath you.

So if you’ve been dealing with pain that seemed to come out of nowhere, or you’ve been handed a diagnosis with no injury to explain it, this is usually why. It didn’t happen overnight, and it’s not something you’re stuck with either.

That’s the question we start with on every discovery call, before treatment ever comes up. Not “where does it hurt,” but “why is it happening here in the first place.” Once you know that, everything else gets a lot more straightforward.
